Information for parents

There is a mothers’ room where you can feed and change your baby in private, while still being able to follow what is happening in the main meeting.

There is a play area available in the foyer for 0 – 2 year olds. Please note that you will need to supervise your child at all times while using these facilities. A speaker in the foyer will ensure that you are able to follow the sermon.

Children’s Ministry

On most Sundays all children join with the adults for approximately 20 minutes of worship. Then children aged 2 – 12 years old (Grade 6) go out to their different groups (Urban Shout, Buzz, Echo, Remix and Revolution) where they are able to meet friends, have fun and grow spiritually. We believe that children learn best when they’re having fun, so we include a wide variety of games, drama and creative activities in our teaching program.

Urban Revolution children, aged 13 – 15 (Grades 7 – 9) leave a bit later, at the end of the worship time.

Children are provided with juice and a biscuit during the morning. In the winter, Urban Revolution children enjoy the privilege of being served hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

Our leaders are a group of enthusiastic volunteers who love children and who want to make a difference in their lives. They are known and trusted members of Urban Voice. We have regular police checks as required by our child protection policy.

All Age Meetings

Approximately once a term we have an ‘All Age’ meeting, which caters for children and adults. The children do not go out on these Sundays, which are usually based on a special theme. These meetings are highlights in our calendar.

Children’s Worship

We believe that it is good for our church family to worship God together. During the 20 minutes that the children are in the main meeting, worship is modeled by adults, who in turn are encouraged by the enthusiastic participation of the children. Throughout the term there are regular times of children’s worship lead by a designated band. We are able to focus specifically on leading children into God’s presence.

The majority of our children speak English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa. Within each team we aim to have leaders able to speak these languages.

2 – 4 Year olds

In order to offer a safe service, an adult must bring a child to this group so that they can be registered. Please collect them promptly at the end of the meeting. Parents receive a call number, which makes it possible to contact you discretely if your child should need you.

4 – 6 Year olds (Preschool children)

In order to offer a safe service, an adult must bring a child to this group so that they can be registered. Please collect them promptly at the end of the meeting. Children attend Urban Buzz from the year in which they turn 5.
